ORLANDO — With Jameer Nelson sidelined by a concussion until next Monday at the earliest, the Orlando Magic reached into the D-League today and signed guard Ish Smith.
Smith appeared in six games earlier this season for the Golden State Warriors, averaging 4.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 10.5 minutes. He scored a season-high 11 points in a 92-78 win over the New York Knicks on Dec. 28 before being waived by the Warriors on Jan. 13. He joined the L.A D-fenders Wednesday, and did not see any D-League action.
Last season, Smith was twice assigned from the Houston Rockets to their NBA D-League affiliate Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he played in eight games and averaged 12.5 points and 7.9 assists in 32.9 minutes.
Smith is expected to join the Magic today and be available tomorrow when the team hosts the Cleveland Cavaliers.
