Are you one of those fantasy hoops GMs who circles draft day on the calendar? Me too. Certain nerve endings in my out-of-warranty brain seem to thrive on the energy of a draft room.
One of the many fascinating options for daily league play at DraftStreet is a Snake draft. Flush from my $20 win on Monday, I entered a 3-man, $5 Snake at about 5:00 Tuesday afternoon. Drafting live was so much fun, I quickly joined one more. It was even better to win both, for a payout of $13.50 per league.
More Snake drafts are definitely in my future, but the Salary Cap game is even better, and here’s the perfect introduction — a Friday Freeroll for Sheridan Hoops readers.
The link lets you open a free account; no credit card or deposit is required. Pick the eight players you think will perform the best on Friday, without exceeding the $100,000 salary cap, to win $100 cash. Just like that. The tournament closes at 7:00 EST on Friday night, but you can enter now and change your lineup at any time. Give it a try!
There are 14 other cash prizes: $60 for second, $30 for third and $20 for fourth are not too shabby, considering it’s absolutely FREE to enter. Even finishing 10th through 15th wins you five bucks, for nothing.
If you can’t wait for Friday and want to play in tonight’s contests, click on the DS logo to get started. There are leagues with entry fees up to $420 for high rollers, or as low as $2, even free leagues where you can win points that can be redeemed for prizes.
DraftStreet 15 | Dec. 12 |
Stars | Over $13,000 |

Kevin Durant | $20,180 |
Chris Paul | $16,248 |
Dwyane Wade | $14,567 |
Scrubs | Under $9,000 |
C.J. Miles | $5,744 |
Cartier Martin | $5,282 |
Mickael Pietrus | $6,037 |
Jonas Valanciunas | $8,689 |

DeMar DeRozan | $12,848 |
Chandler Parsons | $11,944 |
Serge Ibaka | $12,809 |
Omer Asik | $12,368 |
With 13 games in the NBA tonight, there are countless possible lineups. The chart lists five suggestions in three price ranges: over $13,000, under $9,000, and in between. Positions aren’t a huge concern; everyone is either a G, F or C and you need two of each, plus two more from any position, staying within a $100,000 salary cap.
All leagues close at 7:00 EST; you can make unlimited changes to your lineups until then. Here’s one of mine, best described as three superstars and a bunch of scrubs:
F LeBron James (MIA-F) $22,552
F Kevin Love (MIN-F) $19,053
G C.J. Miles (CLE-G) $5,744
G Mickael Pietrus (TOR-G) $6,037
C Omer Asik (HOU-C) $12,368
C Jonas Valanciunas (TOR-C) $8,689
U Kevin Durant (OKC-F) $20,180
U Cartier Martin (WAS-G) $5,282
It’s an experiment. Owning LeBron, Durant and Love on one team can’t be a bad thing. One reason I’m using Pietrus and Valanciunas is hoping for a Nets letdown; the other is tickets to the game. Might as well cheer for a couple of Raptors.
Yesterday didn’t go so well in my Salary Cap and Pick ‘Em leagues, but the two Snake draft wins leave me $15 ahead for the week. I’m going to take it easy tonight, because I won’t be able to react to breaking news and make last-minute roster adjustments. I’ve entered two teams in the $1K GPP, a $2 Pick ‘Em, plus a $5 Double-Up. If there’s time, another $5 Snake (or two) is tempting. Win or lose tonight, there will be plenty left from the original $100 weekly bankroll to spend over the next four days. Check in here every day for updates and my selections.
If you haven’t already joined DraftStreet, click here to sign up and get started immediately. For sure, take advantage of the Friday Freeroll just for our loyal readers. Bragging rights for beating me and Chris Sheridan would be valuable enough, but there’s also $300 in total cash prizes for the top 15 finishers.
