Every year in November, our great country dedicates a day to the men and women that serve our country. Their sacrifice, honor and dedication are what help to give us the freedom we have today, and to be able to live the lives we lead.
For me, and I’m sure to a lot of others, one day out of 365 is not enough to give the veterans of this country the respect and gratitude that they deserve. There are plenty of people who are grateful to our veterans whenever they have the chance to do so, and that’s exactly how it should be.
An easy way to do this is just to thank those who served in the armed forces or branches of the military simply by telling them how much you appreciate them and their choice to serve the United States.
Visiting and calling or texting a family member or friend who you know is a veteran and letting them know how grateful you are for their service and others like them will surely keep their spirits high, and they’ll genuinely know you care and support them for what they do.
On Tuesday, Veteran’s Day, players across the league and teams as a whole showed their thanks and respect to the men and women of the armed forces. George Hill of the Indiana Pacers posted this photo to his Instagram.
George had this to say to the veterans:
Growing Up Always Thought Batman Superman etc were Hero’s. Then As I Got Older I Realized I Was Getting Mislead. The Real Hero’s In This World Are The Ones That Actually Go Out And Sacrifice Their Own Lives To Better Ours. So On This Day I Want To Say Happy Veterans Day To All The Hero’s Out There That Serve Our Country To Make It An Awesome Country To Call Home!!!! #USA
He could not be more accurate about who the real heroes are.
Carlos Boozer of the Lakers posted an older photograph, simply showing his respect for veterans to his Instagram.
Boozer’s thoughts on our vets:
Thank You For Your Courage… Your Honor.. And Your Responsibility… Thank You For Risking Your Lives For Our Freedom… Shout Out To My Dad @austin57!!! We Salute All Of You!!! #veteransday #holdat
A few teams played on Monday night and did not have the chance to play Tuesday to salute the troops, the New York Knicks among them. This was a photo prior to tip for the National Anthem when they hosted the Atlanta Hawks, posted to Instagram by Tim Hardaway, Jr.
Hopefully you thanked those you know that are veterans, and even ones that you didn’t know. The important thing is that this is their day, and they deserve it. Happy Veteran’s Day to all, and thank you for your service!
