There have been exactly a dozen NBA trades made this season, from small to significant. Some teams wanted to clear up money, some teams wanted to continue rebuilding, while others took bold steps in ensuring present and future success on the court.
But in our society of instant gratification and unceasing competition, we almost have an unquenchable thirst for deciding winners and losers.
Saturday played host to the Final Four and NBA players were spectators just like everyone else.
The ninth seeded Wichita State Shockers played against the number one overall seed Louisville Cardinals in the early game.
While the Shockers had the attention of the nation with their improbable Cinderella run, their play made an impression with many in the league.
Dallas Mavericks star forward Dirk Nowitzki had his eye on the game.
Wats going on in the A tonight?? I’m still here.”
Such are the words of Josh Smith [via Twitter] when he didn’t get traded at the NBA’s 3:00 PM trade deadline on Thursday afternoon. Unfortunately, he has since removed that tweet from existence, but not its memory.

According to reports, Ferry balked at the offers that were being given for Smith. The prevailing teams in the hunt were the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets.
The Bucks were unwilling to part with Monta Ellis, Brandon Jennings, Ersan Ilyasova or Larry Sanders—any of whom Atlanta would undoubtedly have wanted for Smith.
As for the Nets, they were unable to put together anything better than #HBAP (Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and draft picks).
So, after many months of speculation and a couple weeks of actual effort, the decision was made to keep Smith for the remainder of the season and reevaluate what to do with him—whether to resign him or not—in the offseason.

The only trade deadline move that the Hawks did make involved sending Anthony Morrow to the Dallas Mavericks for Dahntay Jones.
Mavs owner Mark Cuban took time to send some nice words to Jones as he prepares for his new life in Atlanta.
Hopefully, when the summer rolls around revisiting the Josh Smith talks won’t be as exasperating as it was at the 2013 trade deadline.

Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate this festive holiday.
To those who don’t: “Happy Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or NBA Day.”
One of the best things about Christmas Day (December 25th) is that the NBA is the only major sport on television in the US.
Christmas day is a basketball fan’s refuge, with five games featuring marquee teams.
This Christmas, while the first game was a blowout (with Boston Celtics prevailing over the Brooklyn Nets), the following two games (Los Angeles Lakers/New York Knicks and Miami Heat/Oklahoma City Thunder) have both been exciting and entertaining.
For as enthralling as the games have been, two commercials have taken stolen some of the attention away from the feature presentation.
By now, if you’ve been watching NBA games on Christmas, you’ve seen the Chris Paul commercial for State Farm. If now, watch below.
Yet another clever use of an alter ego (of sorts) in an advertising campaign. [As you'll recall, Pepsi Max came out with Uncle Drew (Kyrie Irving) earlier in 2012.]
The Twitter interplay is also comical.
Although, probably the funniest of Cliff Paul’s tweets is this one:
It’s funny to think that either Cliff doesn’t realize that Chris now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, not the Hornets/Pelicans (although he maintains that achievement), or that he truly is enamored with the choice to change the name to the Pelicans.
The other commercial featured Kevin Durant in a plug for Sprint.
