Hubbard: NBA All-Star Week — Just Go With It

If you’re looking for a way to capture the quality of NBA All-Star Week, think Adam Sandler movies. They are meant to be entertaining. They are hectic, foolish and sometimes embarrassing. The critics hate them.

And the fans love them.

Take a look at the web site Rottentomatoes.com and find Adam Sandler movies, whether it’s as a writer, producer or star. By my count, 39 of them have been rated by critics. Of those 39, 34 of the reviews have been negative.

Safe to say Adam will not be polishing that speech for the Oscars.

Shooting Stars teams announced

The NBA announced Friday the teams and participants for the Shooting Stars competition, which annually kicks off All-Star Saturday Night.

Here are the teams, which are made up of an NBA player, a WNBA player and a former player:

ATLANTA: Joe Johnson, Lindsey Harding, Steve Smith

NEW YORK: Landry Fields, Cappie Pondexter, Allan Houston

ORLANDO: Jameer Nelson, Marie Ferdinand-Harris, Dennis Scott

TEXAS: Chandler Parsons, Sophia Young, Kenny Smith

Atlanta is the defending champion, but the New York entry appears to be the favorite because the event is a shooting competition, and Fields is the worst shooter in the trio. The bottom line is this event usually comes down to the dumb luck of who throws in a half-court shot first.
