5. The San Antonio Spurs were literally less than a minute away from winning the championship last year and now, based on future market odds, they are ranked 5.83 on average out of the 30 teams in terms of odds. It seems there are a big differences of thoughts with the Spurs offshore and the Spurs in Las Vegas. The four offshore sports books rank the Spurs 5th (+1250), 6th (+1160), 8th (+1200) and 8th (+1200) among all teams. In Las Vegas, the Spurs are 4th (+800) and 4th (+1000) at both books, which shows Vegas thinks the Spurs will be better than offshore does and they are more scared to take money on San Antonio based on their previous postseason success.
6. Do the sports books see a trade coming? There is big differences in the Cleveland Cavaliers at many of the sports books, both offshore and in Las Vegas. Cleveland is between 120/1 and 66/1 at these six books, which shows me there is definitely different opinions on how Cleveland will finish this season. But one thing to note is at 5Dimes and at Bovada, Cleveland is ranked 15th of 30 teams at both books, but 5Dimes lists the Cavaliers at 120/1 while Bovada has them at 66/1.
7. Let’s now group the odds together by sets:
LVH: 5 teams under 10/1, 8 teams under 100/1, 11 teams under 250/1 and 6 teams over 250/1
William Hill: 2 teams under 10/1, 14 teams under 100/1, 10 teams under 250/1 and 4 teams over 250/1
5Dimes: 3 teams under 10/1, 11 teams under 100/1, 9 teams under 250/1 and 7 teams over 250/1
Pinnacle: 3 teams under 10/1, 11 teams under 100/1, 9 teams under 250/1 and 7 teams over 250/1
BetOnline: 5 teams under 10/1, 12 teams under 100/1, 8 teams under 250/1 and 5 teams over 250/1
Bovada: 4 teams under 10/1, 12 teams under 100/1, 8 teams under 250/1 and 6 teams over 250/1
8. If you are not betting on the Oklahoma City Thunder or Miami Heat, there really is not a reason to bet NBA futures at either Bovada or BetOnline. If you look at all of the futures, BetOnline does not have the best odds on ANY team compared to the other five sports books on this list.
9. Another team with plenty of different opportunities on this list is the Boston Celtics. If you are looking for a sports book to bet the Celtics future this season, LVH is the place to go. It is currently listing Boston at 300/1, while sports books like BetOnline (+9500) and Williams Hill (+10000) are really shorting the Celtics, which is an interesting move and may just be because of the popularity of the franchise and they are scared a smart franchise like the Celtics could be in for a trade or move in the near future.
10. Let’s take a look at some opportunities in a few other betting propositions other than championship odds at these sports books:
-At 5Dimes, the “Field” to win the championship vs. the Heat is “-225,” which means you have to place a bet of $225 to win $100 (collect $325 back). The “Field” to win the Eastern Conference vs. the Heat is “-120.”
-at 5Dimes, the top five potential championship matchups are as follows: Heat/Thunder (+585), Heat/Spurs (+1085), Heat/Clippers (+1100), Heat/Rockets (+1120) and Bulls/Thunder (+1800).
Finally, let’s take a quick look at four different sports books currently offering odds on teams to win their specific divisions and where to find the best value on every single team:
