The Mets have won the first two games in a series that the Nationals needed to sweep. Both teams have pounded some great pitchers, combining for 28 runs. Tonight it’s Jacob DeGrom $11800 vs. Stephen Strasburg $10100 hoping to get the tired bullpens some rest.
There’s just one afternoon ballgame at 1:45 on Wednesday, the finale of the Cubs at Cardinals series. We’re ignoring All-Day contests at DraftKings to focus on the evening slate at 7:05.
Collin McHugh $10800 is next on the salary scale and that seems reasonable. I’m going with a couple of pitchers whose recent form speaks for itself. After Josh Tomlin $10000 missed the first four months recovering from shoulder surgery, he’s returned with five strong starts, the latest a complete-game 4-hitter in Detroit. Lefty J.A. Happ $7000 has been superb for the Pirates, spinning his best game yet in St. Louis on Friday (7 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 8 K.)
If you’re looking for a cheap SP, Chris Rusin $4700 paid off handsomely for us last time by going the distance at Coors Field. Martin Perez $4900 seems healthy and has the potential for a big game, though not without risk.
Plays of the Day
The $150K Moonshot is a $3 buy-in (FREE to new depositors) that pays the top 11,780 finishers from up to 57,498 teams, with multiple entries permitted. First place wins $12,000. Deadline is 7:05, with lineup changes allowed until each player’s game begins.
We used a few Red Sox batters last night who couldn’t solve R.A. Dickey. Some players say that facing a knuckleballer can affect their timing for another game or two, but Drew Hutchison $6400 has an ERA of 9.00 on the road and his only start this year in Fenway was a nightmare: 6 ER in 4 IP, with 5 BB and 0 K.
1B/C Buster Posey $4700 is always playable in a hitters’ park but costs more than we prefer to pay for a catcher. Gotta stick with J.P. Arencibia $2900 for the third straight day against yet another Tigers lefty with an ERA above 5.00.
1B/OF Chris Davis $4900 has six homers in seven September games; last night’s was a game-winner off a lefty reliever. “Crush” is taking southpaws to the opposite field. We touted 1B/OF Mark Canha $3800 yesterday for his third HR in four games. Stay hot.
Our top 2B Dee Gordon $4900 scored 24 points on Tuesday and faces a raw rookie tonight. 2B/3B Jedd Gyorko $3100 has surprisingly become the regular SS for the Padres, bats fifth and enjoys hitting vs. LHP.
After an August swoon, Alex Rodriguez $4600 has bounced back with homers in three straight. Anyone who predicted the 40-year-old would hit 30 this year seemed insane. In a tiny sample size for a big Panda, Pablo Sandoval $3100 is 5-for-7 off Hutch with two doubles and a homer.
Although Troy Tulowitzki $4200 has done more for the Jays so far with his glove and range at SS, that All-Star bat is coming around. 3B/SS Xander Bogaerts $3800 was our choice last night for $300 more and should also enjoy the matchup.
Ryan Braun $5200 hasn’t had one monster night, just four consecutive multi-hit games. Mookie Betts $4900 and Jackie Bradley Jr. $4800 aren’t exactly bargains but those prices are fair the way both have been hitting. Starling Marte $4600 followed a day off with a 3-for-5 and the Pirates all have a juicy matchup. Kole Calhoun $3900 has homered off Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw 24 hours apart; Mat Latos $6200 should be easy to hit by comparison.Cheaper OF with upside include Gregory Polanco $3500, Canha and Corey Dickerson $2800, back from his latest injury (ribs) in an unlucky season.
