PHOENIX — Channing Frye will be sidelined indefinitely because of a dilated cardiomyopathy, or an enlarged heart. The condition was discovered during a screening echocardiogram conducted as part of a routine preseason physical by Suns team cardiologist Dr. Tim Byrne, the Suns announced Thursday. Frye will be followed closely by his team of medical specialists. He will not participate in basketball activities and will be re-evaluated in December. “Nothing is more important to us than the health and well-being of our players,” said Suns President of Basketball Operations

Forbes: 12 NBA owners among 400 richest Americans (Prokhorov not included)
Pity poor Paul Allen. He only came in at No. 20 on the Forbes list of the 400 Richest Americans. But at least he’ll have something to hold over the heads of the other owners when they convene next month for the Board of Governors meeting in New York (then again, Allen– worth 15 billion– may not attend. He usually sends someone in his place). The only owner who can flex muscles with him is Mikhail Prokhorov of the Brooklyn Nets, with $13.2

When you only write once a week in this space, it seems like a lot happens in the interim. Since I was last here, we’ve done a lot of work: Jeff has written about strategy and Kent has finished off our positional preview, sorted into tiers for draft planning. The last one was the toughest: the centers. Remember if you’re drafting soon, especially in a deep league, to stay familiar with our 2012-13 Depth Chart. Before I say anything else today, I want to

SH Blog: Brandon Roy admits lift is not what it used to be, O.J. Mayo can be a star?
The Dallas Mavericks acquired loads of solid players over the summer and have put themselves in position to be successful despite losing key players in Jason Kidd and Jason Terry to free agency. But can O.J. Mayo be good enough to become a star in the NBA? Could Chris Kaman become the best offensive center of all time in Dallas? Both are conceivable, depending on who you ask. See the chatter going on in Dallas, along with the true status of
Poll: Who is with Artest? Lakers winning 73? What about Heat?
In case you missed it, Metta World Peace said the Los Angeles Lakers are going to try to go 73-9 to better the NBA-record of 72-10 by the Chicago Bulls in 1997-98. “We definitely want to beat the Bulls record and go 73-9, that’s definitely something that I want to do. Whoever is out there at the beginning of the season then we gotta get it. It’s as simple as that. We just have to go get it,” World Peace said,

C Tiers The centers wrap up our five part series on fantasy tiers. Yesterday we looked at power forwards, a much deeper position. In fact, we “borrowed” a few PF with C eligibility to make this list more respectable. Point guards, shooting guards and small forwards were ranked previously. Default position settings (those used in a majority of leagues) are PG, SG, G, SF, PF, F, C, C, Util, Util, with three Bench spots. That second center spot can be a revolving door all season, even in
Sixers co-owner hosted fateful Romney fundraiser, wild parties
By now, you’ve probably become somewhat aware of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s latest and perhaps greatest gaffe – a video at a fundraiser earlier this year at which he basically dismissed half the electorate. After explaining to potential campaign donors that 47 percent of Americans don’t pay income tax, Romney said, “My job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.” What you may not know was that
