In the past year or so, cryotherapy has been gaining popularity in the NBA. Only a handful of teams use these futuristic cryo chambers, but players have apparently had positive feedback of the treatment. The Phoenix Suns were one of the first teams to have one at their facilities.
When I hear the term “cryotherapy” or anything with “cryo” in the name, I can’t help but think of Austin Powers. That’s the huge machine that freezes and keeps someone in a stasis for up to years at a time, right?
Eh, close. NBA training staffs are using the cryotherapy chambers to help their players recover from workouts/soreness, and to make them feel fresh and rejuvenated. According to their website www.uscryotherapy.com, “Cryotherapy is localized or whole-body exposure to subzero temperatures to decrease inflammation, increase cellular survival, decrease pain and spasms, and promote overall health”.
Jordan Farmar of the Los Angeles Clippers posted this photo to Instagram today with DeAndre Jordan proving that subzero temperatures are good for flexing.
Farmar said in the caption that Jordan looks like “Demolition Man” coming out of the cryo chamber, a movie starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. Stallone is a cop who is kept in a cryo chamber and frozen for years before being awoken in a non-violent future.
This picture is really cool. I honestly thought this type of technology and treatment was completely fake, or only real in a galaxy far, far away..
Do you think the Clippers let Brandon Knight use their cryotherapy after he was flat out destroyed by DeAndre Jordan last year?
