The final day of Kobe Bryant’s illustrious career as an NBA player. The last time we will ever see one of the greatest legends of this generation playing the game of basketball.
Whether you love him or hate him, the man known as “The Black Mamba” has had a profound impact in the NBA over the last two decades no matter how you slice it.
It’s been a tough finish to his career over the last few seasons, though, as the superstar shooting guard did everything in his power to overcome devastating injuries, starting with the tear of his Achilles tendon back in 2013. Although Bryant hasn’t been the same since that particular injury, he couldn’t let go of the game he loved so dearly until now.
Before his final game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers took some time to honor Bryant:
What transpired after that was like a dream for Bryant, who somehow, at the age of 37 in the final game of his career against one of the best defensive teams in the league, scored 60 points on 22-of-50 shooting from the field to beat the Jazz 101-96.
Truly, it couldn’t have been scripted any better than this. No player has ever put on a better show in their final game – perhaps ever in any sport. All of it was simply surreal, and players around the league went bonkers over it all:
